We opened the show discussing Rev. William Barber and his recent comments comparing the Senate health care bill to political murder and slavery, which he says is referred to in the Bible. He quotes scripture to support his dramatic characterization of the Senate health care bill. Barber claims 23 million Americans will lose their health insurance (not care), a number which has been widely disputed.
The newly crowned Miss North Carolina, Victoria Huggins called into the show to talk about her experience. We discussed the role of Miss North Carolina and her preparation for the Miss America pageant. Miss Higgins offered her perspective on the political environment and how she believes Americans can seek unity.
The Supreme Court is going to be hearing a case regarding a cake baker who refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple. The case will focus on equal protection under the law and the religious rights of individuals. Does government have the authority to force bakers to provide or serve all patrons?
We discussed the difference between meeting the needs of consumers and creating jobs. The government loves to “create” jobs but most of the time these jobs are short term and create little value for those being employed and consumers/society as a whole.
